The Best Accessories for Off-Roading in a Toyota

Toyotas are well known for being rugged vehicles that can take on rough terrain. They can handle rocky paths, navigate sudden changes in terrain, and ford streams with no trouble at all. This can make a Toyota pickup a perfect option for off-road adventures. Still, even the toughest vehicles can use some help when they’re off the beaten path. Keep reading to learn which aftermarket accessories you should add to your Toyota to help it get through those rough spots more easily.

High Clearance Rear Bumper

Even if your truck can get through steep terrain, it’s probably going to get a few dings and scrapes in the process. This often happens on the back bumper, which can scrape or thump on the ground when navigating sudden elevation changes. If you want to ensure that your rear bumper isn’t damaged on trails like these, it’s a good idea to swap out your manufacturer-made bumper for an aftermarket variety that offers higher clearance.

A high-clearance bumper will give the back end of your truck the extra distance it needs to clear those elevation changes with minimal bumping and scraping. Many of these aftermarket bumpers are also made of tougher material, like aluminum and steel, so that even if they do scrape—which is bound to happen sometimes—they’re much less likely to take any damage.

Front Bumper with Bull Bar

Hopefully, your off-roading excursions don’t involve intentionally ramming into objects. However, your front end is still your first line of defense as you navigate around trees, boulders, and other obstacles, so it’s not unusual for the front bumper of an off-road vehicle to get a dent, scratched, and dinged. While not completely avoidable, much of this damage can be prevented by simply upgrading the front bumper.

As mentioned earlier, a sturdier front bumper (made of aluminum and/or steel) will take a beating without showing damage. If that bumper has a bull bar—a bar that protects the front headlights and grill of your truck—even more of your vehicle’s front end will be protected from damage. You can plow through thick brush and navigate the roughest parts of the backwoods without concern.

Additional Lighting

The final accessory your Toyota should have for off-roading is some additional lighting. Your truck’s headlights (even your high beams) simply don’t cut it in the middle of the wilderness at night. Adding a light bar or installing additional lighting on an aftermarket bumper can provide the illumination you need to get through any terrain in the dark.

Make sure you have these Toyota off-road accessories before you set off on your next adventure!
